Pet Photo Checker

Before you turn a photo into a canvas or a mug, find out if it is sharp, bright and big enough. Results in about a second — your photo stays on your device.

Quick fixes for a better pet photo

  • Get down to eye level and tap to focus on the nearest eye.
  • Turn off the flash; stand next to a window instead.
  • Use burst mode — one of ten frames will have the ears up and eyes open.
  • Send the original from your camera roll, not a screenshot.

More detail in our guide how to photograph your pet for a portrait, or check how large it can print with the print size calculator.

FAQ

What makes a good photo for a pet portrait?

Eyes in sharp focus, soft daylight from a window, the face filling a good part of the frame, and no heavy filters. The original file from your camera roll beats a screenshot or a photo forwarded through a messaging app, which are compressed.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API. The photo is only uploaded if you choose to open the portrait studio afterwards.

My photo scored low on sharpness — can it still work?

Often yes for painterly styles like Watercolor or Honey Oil, which smooth fine detail. For Graphite or Quiet Studio, a sharper photo gives a closer likeness.

How is the score calculated?

Four checks worth 25 points each: resolution (short side of the image), focus (variance of the Laplacian edge filter on a 512 px copy), lighting (average brightness) and contrast (brightness spread). It is a heuristic, not a judgment of how cute your pet is.
